The High Performance Computational Biology Group at University of Illinois at Chicago develops and applies computational techniques for modeling and understanding biological processes. Our research emphasizes the application of high performance and parallel computation techniques to computationally intensive biological/bioinformatics problems. We apply these techniques to various types of biological data, including DNA and protein sequence data, and to data from new advance sequencing techniques such as pyrosequencing. We are currently developing methods for the domain decomposition of biological data and its applications in various areas of multiple sequence alignment, phylogeny regulatory motifs in DNA, detection of remote protein homologies etc.
